New Profit is a venture philanthropy organization that backs breakthrough social entrepreneurs who are advancing equity and opportunity in America.

New Profit was founded in 1998 to help catalyze the nascent social entrepreneurship movement. Since then, we have backed and partnered with more than 150 social entrepreneurs who created powerful ideas, tools, organizations, and movements to turn the tide on entrenched social problems, advancing opportunity for millions of underserved people and communities. Here’s our founding story.

In our portfolio, we fund and support organizations employing a variety of models and approaches – from direct service programs to movement-building efforts – to drive transformative change. Through our nonpartisan policy initiative and coalition, America Forward, we also provide a platform for social entrepreneurs to advance a public policy agenda that champions innovative and effective solutions to pressing social challenges.

We are committed to backing social entrepreneurs who center equity in their work and who are proximate to the communities we collectively aim to serve. Our Inclusive Impact initiative is designed to spread this commitment across the sector and to drive unprecedented capital to some of our nation’s most proximate and promising innovators – Black, Indigenous, and Latino/a/x leaders – who understand the multi-dimensional root causes of social issues, but receive only a fraction of philanthropy’s resources aimed at solving them.

As a part of our effort to advance equity, opportunity, and systemic change in our country, we are committed to backing a growing portfolio of visionary social entrepreneurs. We are working to double the size of our portfolio over the next five years by funding and delivering advisory support more effectively and efficiently to organizations who are working to drive innovation in a broad range of issue areas and communities across the country.
